At the last monthly Muhlenberg Township Commissioners meeting two of our personnel were recognized for their actions and assistance to a Muhlenberg Township Police Officer during a recent motor vehicle accident in Muhlenberg Township.
On April 4, 2023 the MTFR along with Muhlenberg Ambulance were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries and fire, on Route 61 and Hartman Road. MTFR crews arrived and began assessing the scene, which turned out to be just general cleanup of the area following the accident, negative vehicle fire. While crews were cleaning up and mitigating fluids, a driver engaged a physical altercation with a police officer. During the interaction and attempt to de escalate the situation the officer fell backwards to the ground and quickly found the individual on top of the him. While performing their duties on scene Deputy Chief Eric Reinhart and Firefighter Paul LaFaver observed the altercation nearby and rushed to assist the officer, along with two personnel from Muhlenberg Ambulance. Crews assisted with removing the individual from on top of the officer and restraining the individual until additional officers, who were down the block directing traffic, were alerted.
Crews were commended by Muhlenberg Township Police Chief Hoover as their actions in assisting prevented more serious injuries to the officer.
